IP Multimedia Subsystem
(IMS)
A standard initially defined
by 3GPP to provide an architecture for IP-based rich
multimedia services for mobile communications. It makes
new service creation easier by providing standard, reusable
building blocks at different layers from the core network
to the end-user device and ensures interoperability
between solutions from different vendors. With the advent
of Fixed-Mobile Congergence, IMS is also now being adopted
as a key part of a next generation network architecture
that can provide common services across both fixed and
mobile networks.
