Home with Technology

More
and more devices are cropping up based on digital technology
and the government has warned that digital TV will have
to be the norm in less than a decade. But what will
the home of the future look like, and how can the channel
make the most of the opportunities it will present?
As
Fergus O' Reilly, vice-president for product strategy
at Highdeal, reminds us: "There is no one way in
which all these devices should be brought together,
different vendors are jockeying for position to deliver
the 'hub' of the connected home."
“With
such intense competition among the proprietary solutions,
and open standards not being anywhere near, you could
say that we are in an age of 'plug and pray'. Which
is good news for resellers, because it opens the opportunity
to package the service component along with their hardware
sales. And, being totally mercy for a moment, it also
means the hardware consumers are buying today will be
inadequate tomorrow, and short upgrade cycles mean increased
profits.”
