Central
& Eastern European carriers are no longer the laggards
they were once perceived to be. Sustained investment, deft
skipping of generations and a technologically savvy population
has meant hat many territories have caught up fast with their
western European equivalents. But hat does all this mean for
OSS / BSS vendors…
Other
vendors certainly see the advanced countries maturing. "Eastern
and central European carriers have definitely caught-up to
and are launching the same sorts of services as the rest of
the world," said Sofia Lebreton, central and eastern
European sales manager at Highdeal. "Deregulation may
have come to the region one-step behind western European markets,
but it has helped carriers to be prepared. They saw what happened
in Western Europe and were ready for the intense competition
and need to launch new services quickly and efficiently as
soon as the markets opened-up."
Lebreton
also thinks the operators in the west of the region have benefited
from the support of and access to the expertise of western
groups. "Orbitel, a Highdeal customer, is the first competitive
telecommunications provider in Bulgaria following the fall
of the national monopoly in 2003," she said. "It
is part of the Deutsche Telekom Group and offers convergent
communications solutions for telephony, high speed internet
and VPNs in promotions and that came with the inherent ability
to provide both prepaid and postpaid payment mechanisms."
