Highdeal,
Steleus and Sun Microsystems Use OSS through Java APIs to
Demonstrate Fast Integration for Revenue Assurance and Fault
Management
Three industry specialists created
the first complete solution for Revenue Assurance with less
than two weeks integration using OSS/J APIs.
Paris - March
16, 2004 - Highdeal , the leading provider of pricing, charging
and rating solutions for online and mobile data services and
Steleus, a real-time performance management company specialising
in network-related intelligence for telecom operators, have
joined up with Sun to demonstrate one of the industry's most
complete solutions for insuring against revenue leakage in
mobile networks.
The solution, which was presented during
the recent 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, shows how operators
can visualise, track and evaluate the impact of potential leakage
points in their system. This is crucial in the business domain
of mobile data services where content and applications are transmitted
through various heterogeneous systems. Analysts estimate that
between 3 and 11% of revenue is lost because of leaks, gaps and
errors . Operators need to be able to quickly locate the leakage
points and determine their impact in order to recuperate potential
lost revenue.
The joint solution combines the power of
the Steleus GPRS monitoring solution, with the unparalleled flexibility
and real-time performance of the Highdeal Transactive rating
engine. Rounding out the solution is the anytime, anywhere information
access provided by the Sun Java Enterprise System . The joint
solution continuously monitors the mobile data network and produces
alerts in real-time when faults, quality problems, or revenue
loss is detected.
The joint solution was integrated with
ease in record time (less than two weeks) due to the use of the
OSS/J APIs. These same APIs also ensure that the solution is
future-proof for operators since they can easily extend and modify
system components as their needs change.
" Highdeal is proud to be the first
rating and billing solution provider to integrate the OSS/J
standard, " says Eric Pillevesse, co-founder and CEO of
Highdeal. " Today we are the first to provide a revenue
leakage solution using OSS/J. This joint demonstration is a
fantastic real-time response to an ever-increasing problem
facing today's telcos. We are more than satisfied with the
high performance and proactivity that the solution offers."
Demonstration
Overview:
The Steleus solution
acquires and processes network traffic data in real time. When
alert limits are reached, it sends an alarm to the Sun Java System
Portal Server using the OSS/J Quality of Service API. It also
sends aggregated data to the Highdeal Transactive rating engine
using the OSS/J Billing API for transmission. Highdeal Transactive
then compares the data coming from Steleus with that of another
mediation application to determine in near real time if there
was revenue leakage. This allows service providers to
take corrective actions instantly to minimize the impact of any
errors on revenue.

Gate ((2)) - Single Monitoring System for GSM/GPRS/UMTS Networks
The Steleus engine Gate
((2)) , acquires network traffic data in
real-time from non-intrusive probes and builds xDRS (IPDRs
for GPRS networks). It then filters and aggregates the flow
of xDRs to generate powerful counters, key performance indicators
and threshold-triggered traffic alarms. Steleus real-time
monitoring solutions are used by operators to optimize their
GSM/GPRS/UMTS networks, master their interconnections, increase
their roaming revenue, and ensure end-to-end QoS. Steleus
solutions are based on an open software architecture. These
user-friendly tools are traffic and business oriented, to
enable business based decision. Their flexibility allows
the creation of on-the-fly KPIs.
About
the OSS through JavaT Initiative
Building on
the success of Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EET)
technology in enterprise applications and e-commerce, the OSS
through JavaT Initiative is chartered to develop APIs that
accelerate the development of innovative OSS/BSS solutions
where all applications function together. The Initiative's
APIs are standardized under the latest Java Community Process
SM (JCP) program. They help Service Providers jumpstart the
deployment of end-to-end services on next-generation networks
and leverage the convergence of telecommunications and Internet-based
solutions. For more information on OSS/J and its membership,
