Highdeal obtains exceptional results
in a performance benchmark for mobile services on Sun Microsystems
servers.

leading provider of pricing, rating and settlement solutions for emerging IP and mobile services,
today announced its exceptional performance benchmark results
of Highdeal Transactive®. The benchmark was based on a series
of highly realistic mobile service usage scenarios carried out
in the Sun Microsystems laboratories in Paris. ..
To verify the performance and scalability
of the Highdeal Transactive solution, Highdeal tested their
software on a range of Sun Microsystems
servers (Sun Fire™ V40z, V440 et E6900) using Solaris™ 9
and Solaris 10 operating systems and Sun StorEdge™ 3510
storage solutions. The tests were carried out in a multi-server
configuration with parallel rating on clustered servers to demonstrate
automatic load balancing and high availability.
To show pricing flexibility allied with high performance, Highdeal
Transactive was tested under highly demanding, complex scenarios
for charging and rating:
- Online Session-Based
Charging - Fundamental for new
IMS services, this type of charging for prepaid and credit-limited
postpaid
services requires high throughput, minimal response times
(latency) and high availability
- 3rd
Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Class B Rating - Recently standardized by
the 3GPP as part of a new
convergent online charging
architecture, this type of rating requires that each
individual subscriber context be taken into account in real-time
(e.g.,
which services are subscribed to; the options chosen;
varying usage levels within monthly plans with included bundles
of minutes;
individualized cross-product promotions; lists of preferred
numbers, etc.)
- Mobile
Voice and Data Offers - Mobile offers are among the
most sophisticated encountered in the market today.
Therefore, Highdeal
chose to base its benchmark scenarios around real-world
examples of such offers compiled from actual customer cases.
These involved:
- Subscriptions: with included voice minutes
and SMS bundles
- Rating based on the type of call and destination:
local, national zones, international zones
and roaming
- Rating based on the time and date of the
call: peak/off-peak times, weekday, weekend
and public
holiday rates
- Loyalty programs for customers who are awarded
loyalty points and cross-product promotional
SMS/MMS bundles
Highdeal Transactive has proven its high performance for charging
and rating of such offers thereby demonstrating its ability to
handle the most sophisticated of offers not only for mobile,
but also for broadband, video and on-demand services.
Results :

Rating
425 Transactions rated per second
and per CPU (Sun UltraSPARC® IIIi
at 1.59 GHz), for 10 million subscribers using 3GPP Class
B rating, with linear scalability and high availability
of 99.999%.
Latency
was also impressive: just 20 milliseconds, much lower than
that required by the most demanding of Tier 1 service providers.
- Billing
Highdeal Transactive is capable of calculating and generating
an impressive 600,000 detailed bills per hour on a Sun
Fire E6900 with 24 UltraSPARC IV CPUs.
