Highdeal and the OSS/J Initiative

 |
The OSS through Java™
Initiative |
The OSS through Java™ Initiative
is a working group of industry leaders who have joined
resources to speed the development of innovative OSS/BSS
solutions and enable fast deployment and integration
of OSS components. Building on the success of J2EE technology
in enterprise applications, the Initiative defines and
implements an open, standard set of Java™ technology-based
APIs that help jumpstart the implementation of end-to-end
services on next-generation wireless networks and leverage
the convergence of telecommunications and Internet-based
solutions

Highdeal - First Rating and
Billing System to Join the OSS/J Initiative |
Highdeal has joined the OSS through
Java™ Initiative (OSS/J) as a Focus member to
speed the development of innovative OSS/BSS solutions
and enable significantly faster deployment and integration
of OSS components. The Highdeal solution is the first
rating and billing system to adopt OSS/J standards to
integrate more rapidly and easily its carrier class
and convergent rating engine, Highdeal Transactive®,
to OSS solutions.
“OSS/J
APIs offer real value, not only in handling the complexities
of integration, but also in helping to establish a well
designed and open architecture that closely matches
the industry’s vision for next generation OSS.
The Highdeal / Sun / Intracom demonstration at this
year’s TeleManagement World exhibition in France
further convinced us of the advantages in joining the
OSS/J Initiative,” says Eric Pillevesse,
Highdeal CEO.
The Highdeal commitment in the
OSS/J Initiative naturally leads to more specific attention
towards the OSS Billing Mediation API.

OSS Billing Mediation API with
Highdeal and OSS/J |
“As
the market place and customer demands change, Service
Providers who can quickly rollout new services and actively
bill for them, will find themselves in a very strong
and competitive position. […] The OSS Billing
Mediation API will help reduce the time to market for
these services and provide a faster time to revenue.[…]
The OSS Billing Mediation API allows billing ISVs to
focus on features and capabilities as discriminators,
but not have to repetitively deal with integration and
compatibility issues.” (OSS/J Billing Mediation
specification).
Highdeal integrated the client
side of the OSS Billing Mediation API (JSR
130) with its Highdeal Transactive 3.x release,
and ran demos at Telemanagement World Forum 2003 in
Nice, France and Tokyo. This showed the capabilities
of the API for fast and easy implementation and its
independence towards the type of services rated and
billed.
“The
OSS Billing Mediation API was easy to implement and
very well adapted for rating and postpaid billing of
new and different services. Coupled with Highdeal capabilities,
it gives service providers a high level of independence
to tailor the application to their specific in-house
needs, thereby cutting away massive layers of service
development for both implementation and maintenance,
plus reducing costs and the time to launch new services,”
adds Eric Pillevesse.
